The US Youth Soccer (USYS) Northeast Presidents Cup concluded at Westminster School and Simsbury Soccer Club’s Curtiss Park this past Sunday, just weeks after Simsbury hosted the Connecticut Cup Finals. With Connecticut serving as host state for the regional event, Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) sent 15 teams into group play, with three making it all the way to the championship round.
By the time the confetti settled on Championship Sunday, Connecticut had a Northeast Presidents Cup champion of its own in Stamford FC Girls 2013 Premier, who lifted the 13U Girls Trophy.
“Great weather, and a great showing by Connecticut teams at the Northeast Presidents Cup,” said Josh Krusewski, Executive Director of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association. “Congratulations to the 12U Girls from Cromwell, 14U Girls from Simsbury, and 13U Girls from Stamford on reaching the finals. A special congratulations and best of luck to Stamford as they move on to represent Connecticut at the National Presidents Cup in Wichita, Kansas. A sincere thank you to the Simsbury Soccer Club and the Westminster School for being great hosts.”
Championship Sunday Results
13U Girls: Stamford FC Girls 2013 Premier left no doubt in the 13U Girls Final, controlling the championship match to secure a 3-0 win over Highland Youth Soccer Club 2013G Elite Swarm (NJ). The shutout sent Stamford to the awards stage as Northeast Presidents Cup champions, securing their spot in the National Presidents Cup next month in Wichita, Kansas.
12U Girls: Cromwell Chill evenly matched FC Europa FCE (PAE) through regulation play in the 12U Girls Final, with the championship game being tied 1-1 when the whistle was blown to conclude the second half. The title match was ultimately sent into penalty kicks, where FC Europa converted at a 4-2 clip to narrowly defeat the Cromwell side.
14U Girls: After going unbeaten in group play to win their bracket, Simsbury Inferno advanced to the 14U Girls Final to meet New Jersey Surf South Shore (NJ). Simbsury battled the New Jersey team for the entirety of the match-up, but they eventually came up just short when the final whistle was blown to conclude the tournament.
The Road to Wichita
With its Northeast Presidents Cup title secured, Stamford FC Girls 2013 Premier now advances to the USYS National Presidents Cup, which is scheduled for July 7-11 in Wichita, Kansas. There, Stamford will face regional champions from across the country, all competing for a national title. The trip to Kansas is the next step on a journey for Stamford FC Girls 2013 Premier that started in seasonal play before running through Curtiss Park twice in the span of a month for the Connecticut Cup and Northeast Presidents Cup.
A Strong Showing for Connecticut
Congratulations to Stamford FC Girls 2013 Premier on their Northeast Presidents Cup title and to Cromwell Chill and Simsbury Inferno on their runs to their respective championship games. All three sides represented Connecticut extremely well on home soil, as did each and every team that took the field during the Northeast Presidents Cup.
